North America
According to RREEF Real Estate Research, total direct real estate investment in the U.S. rose to $310 billion USD in 2006. This is a 20% increase from 2005, reflecting continued demand for U.S. property by international investors. Despite the shift of investor composition in various markets, the U.S. still provides the rare basics - stability, clear title, historically-healthy diversified economies, steady growth, government support, and equal opportunity.
International investors benefit from diversification opportunities, vast size/ selection, easy exit strategies; and little or no additional restrictions/scrutiny (www.realtor.org). AFIRE's (Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate) chairman, Mark Preston further asserts that the U.S. continues to be "the safest conduit for cross-border real estate dollars, by a substantial margin-63%" ( www.afire.org).
